Hinkley Point B station director: Nigel Cann
Nigel has worked in the nuclear industry for 26 years, having started his career at Dungeness A in Kent - a Magnox station - in 1981 as a maintenance technician. In 1988 Nigel moved across the fence to the advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR) Dungeness B, where he worked his way up though the ranks from electrical maintenance engineer to reactor desk engineer, control room supervisor and finally shift charge engineer. In 2001 Nigel took on his first managerial role as outage manager before going on to roles as assistant operations manager, maintenance manager and plant manager, moving on to the same role at Sizewell B at the beginning of 2007. Nigel has a number of engineering qualifications including a Beng Hons in Degree Energy Engineering and a HNC in Electrical Engineering, as well as holding emergency controller status during his time at Dungeness B. He has also represented British Energy and the UK nuclear industry at both WANO (World Association of Nuclear Operators) and INPO (Institute of Nuclear Power Operators) seminars and reviews across the world.
